Should I Wait?

Like so many, I'm building a new rig with the Q6600. It sucks that the prices are jacked up right now, but I did some calculating and if I buy most of my components from newegg and the CPU from zipzoomfly ($299.99) I'll be spending about $33 more if the CPU's were priced at their retail $266. My question is I don't know if I should wait or not because the rebates on all my other items have to be purchased by the 31st. I think an extra $33 is that much, but then I thought would it be worth it to wait for the G0. Does anyone now when those are supposed to be coming out and how much they might be? Also is the G0 that much better, cause I understand that it's supposed to have lower temps and better overclock ability, but is it really worth the wait. If there wasn't rebates involved I would probably wait, but I can't make up my mind. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks for the advice in advanced.

order your stuff and get the rebates

as in for the cpu, pre-order G0 from tankguys.com for 5bucks and you will get it during the 1st two weeks of aug

that sounds like your best bet

you do realize you're allowed to shop at other vendors besides egg and zzf right?

i just ordered new parts to build a new pc myself a few days. i had tabs open on these sites finding the components i wanted at the cheapest prices: newegg, zzf, mwave, xoxide, antares computing inc, clubit

to recap, here's what i got at each store.
newegg: case, 120mm scythe fan for HS, evga 8800gts
zzf: after adding it all up it was more expensive than every other vendor
mwave: motherboard, memory, powersupply
xoxide: thermalright ultra-120 extreme (heatsink)
antares computing: intel e6850 (~$273)

$266 is not retail .. It is Intel's wholesale price for 1,000 units ...

I would expect prices to stay closer to $300 for some time to come..

AlucardX I know I can shop at other places, but I would like to buy everything in one place so I can cut down on the shipping. Also even when the G0's come out, will the sites say its a G0, because whenever I have looked on newegg's and zzf, they have no indication of what chip it is.

If you fighting over this 33 bucks then I think you should wait a bit for price to stabilize.

If you want to effect the economics, instead of complaining about their existence, you might try here Under 3 stones for the revered Q chip, GO stepping available - some by request, some luck of the draw. If you're tired of eating Eggs, change flavors.

If the sites say ' GO ', then you should count on it ..

Otherwise there is reason to believe you will get a G0 .

I wouldn't expect ZZF or Egg ( or most high volume sellers ) to promise a particular stepping.
There is too much overhead and headaches to provide stepping check ....

Now, if they start listing a lower voltage or power rating in the specifications, that indicate a
particular stepping, then they would be obligated to ship that part.

REPEATED FOR CLARITY ! READ PEOPLE, THEY AREN'T GOING TO BE $266 UNTIL THE WHOLESALE PRICE GOES BELOW $266

Tankguys will take an order specifically for GO stepping. As for the site I ^^^ listed (some posters have already received GO stepping CPU's), if your order is big $$$ enough, they will inadvertantly make sure you get GO stepping, upon request. A lot has been said to calling the customer reps -- it is apparently quite effective, as many are well aware of the interest in specific stepping and will try to accomodate the request. Sure, in some instances they'll just tell you they can't guarantee a specific stepping, unless as the ^poster pointed out, it's in their ad. So, hey, old tech: "pick up the phone."

Uh huh. Just like E6600 never went below $316 until the "wholesale" price was below $316?

Reps from NIXC.com have clearly stated on their site forums that they will not accept requests for G0 -..

At least one person said they were told on the phone by a CSR that they were only shipping G0, so they took that as a guarantee.
It was a sad mistake..

Yes, a lot of people who ordered from them have received G0.. Some are reporting B3 who ordered after G0 was confirmed to be shipping.

It apparently depends on where they ship from. They appear to have several stocking locations..
