Should I wait to get my Texas Drivers license?

Here is the situation. Have been living in Dallas for over a year, moved here from Louisiana. I still have a Louisiana Drivers license. I currently drive two cars, one registered in Texas (Ford) and one still registered in Louisiana (Honda).

I plan on selling the Honda around April. Should I wait till April to go get my Texas license? Any time I get stopped I just tell the cops I just moved to Dallas, have not gotten a ticket yet for it yet.

Oh, and the only reason I have the Honda is because I make money off it for work.

Heck, you might as well wait until April. Since you're not in violation of TOO many Texas laws in addition to lying to the police, I can't ever see a bad outcome here, no sirree.

As long as you have a vehicle w/ TX plates, having the LA license will not allow your excuses to fly.

What's the big deal about not going down and getting a Texas DL? Laziness? Lack of funds? No insurance?

1) I am new to Texas, what do I need to do in order to get a Texas license?

A new resident moving into Texas who has a valid driver license from his home state, has 30 days after entry into the state to secure a Texas driver license.

Great way to treat your new state home. If you are going to use our roads then pay what we have to pay.

(Honda) Laziness and it will most likely not pass emmissons, also has a crack going down the windshield that will also prevent it. I have insurance for it. I also tend to drive it in Louisiana for my job, probably half the time.

Jeez, seems like nobody in the forum every breaks a single law

Seeing as how you are such a bad driver that you've been pulled over more than once, and you don't know how to spell license, I would recommend public transportation. You're probably the guy who cut me off on 35/635/75/Tollway the other day..

I waited until my license had to be renewed. I did get one ticket for not having a front plate and needing to update my license, but I managed to sweet talk my way out of the license part.

Well, seeing how you spelled license I think you moved to the right state. :p

BTW-Why do you feel the need to justify why you have a Honda?

Just to differentiate between the two cars in further discussion.

I don't think anyone would confuse a Honda and a Ford.

I'd just go down to DMV and get your Texas license. If you continue to drive the Honda with Louisiana plates you are just taking a chance of getting pulled over and cited for it. Cops do notice vehicles with out of state plates and if the same cop sees you a few times he may just decide to pull you over for it. If you're going to keep the car until April I'd register it in Texas just to avoid any hassles with the law.

My coworker said that I could just sign the Honda over to my parents in Louisiana and keep the registration and inspection sticker.

That's not going to get you out of being pulled over and hassled and it might not get you out of a ticket either.

whatever you do, get your texas ID before your LA one expires, otherwise (like me) you'll have to retake the driving test.
