If you can, wait till Haswell ( < 6 mos away). It'll run games just as well, or a little bit better than Ivy Bridge (current Intel top consumer cpu) and hopefully the maker of your video editing software will recompile the code and release a new version w/support for Haswell's special instructions and run faster. IMO.

If you need a PC now you build it now. If you already got something that is sufficient but want an upgrade. You have to choose if its worth the wait or not.

Have you thought about an AMD 8350 its only $10 dollars less than a better performing Ivy bridge. Save $10 and its more cores for video editing.

LOL 6 months from now their still shipping only Haswell for Mobile ... laptops... and budget CPUs 2 core 4 core etc.

Haswell will not be bringing 6 or 8 thread haswells for PC until 2014 2H then when they do its just a 8 logical cores. For that you need ivy bridge and sandy bridge

Also haswell supposed to have amazing video power,,, thats for peep that use onboard video........ Who here uses onboard video ... ?

Its just a really faster GPU in CPU and the CPU draws low power,,, and is 5 percent better then ivy bridge,,,,, but if you get the right ivy bridge like the 12 core thats coming out 3Q 2013. This will blow away any desktop CPU at that time including Dukes of Haswell...gl

Haswell has been so over hyped. Ugh, Expect 5%-15% IPC improvements over a "SAME clocked SAME watted SAME tdp Ivy".

Do keep in mind that the GT3 iGPU is not a Desktop part, at least I can't find any desktop info about it. And so, the "double" gpu gain with the GT3, will be in specific models. Expect 20%-30% improvement with the HD4600.

In lower power skus/tdp, the gains over Ivy will be much less.

Intel can't make miracles. Sheesh.

But to stay on topic, I say wait or go AMD. Unless you wanna LGA2011?

this should be answered after statement below

now or later?

but the thing is i cant figure out to go for 3rd gen or 4 gen
yes you can, i think you already know what is best for you

please tell me what to do ?
rethink what you want to do

cause i think 3rd generation is already a year old its 2013 now
so how does that pertain to anything?

i need a pc that can high end game and high end edit pic / vedio
do you want to be behind the curve or on top of it?

and that can run 24x7
if you don't turn the power off it will run 24/7

I'd personally rather pay $10 for a better performing IB. Besides, that savings will be short lived anyway with it's power consumption figures IDC was getting. After all is said and done, you've ended up with a costlier system that isn't as good by the time you need to upgrade again
