I am in the market for a new laptop. I heard that Penryn laptop chips will be available in January. I am thinking that they should be more powerful and consume less power. Do you think that it would make sense to wait for a Penryn laptop? The laptop I have in my cart right now is this one.
I can never see the point in waiting. By the time you've waited there will be some other development on the horizon and you'll want to wait for that too. End up waiting forever.
Where did you here mobile penryn will be out in january? I know consumer level desktop chips are due then but I haven't seen anything specific on when mobile will be released (save for some talk of a ultra high end mobile quad core that might be the first mobile penryn will dual cores coming later). If the laptop is a secondary machine then most of penryn's features won't matter too much (at least in the short term), if it is your only or your primary machine then the new sse instructions and extra cache might be worth waiting for.
