Should I volunteer?

My College's computing department asked me if I would be willing to volunteer to help out 1) fixing computers 2) troubleshooting software/hardware 3) and some networking (mostly cabling and minimal config). (the topic was brought up when I was helping another student with her work)

At first I was like NO because I really need money but now that I think of it more it seems that this would look really good on a resume and plus I would be helping people.

So what do you think? Yes or No

These jobs are typically paid...I would expect minimum wage at the least or look for something else. A resume builder? Yes, but only partially. Unless you want to be altruistic, I would say this job will take more (namely, time, something that is precious in college) than it will give back.

It would probably look good on your resume but I'd be sure to get your duties spelled out in writing including how many hours per week you are expected to commit to and who will assume liability if a computer you are working on is damaged.. I'd also ask if there was any possibility of this turning into a paying job if your performance is up to par.

Good luck,I bet you'll really impress them with your skills !
