I just got my A8N-SLI Premium installed and I was wondering if I should install the nForce4 drivers from ASUS or just get the latest from NVIDIA? Is there any difference taht I need to be worried about?

Thanks,

I've been using the Standalone drivers version 6.53, which was downloaded from nVidia website, without any issue.

if you ever plan on using a maxtor drive, or a tv tuner card from kworld, I would definately go for the asus drivers.
Check out my posts. I did some research and it seems that maxtor hd, and nvidia chipsets dont go to well together. It has to do with the nvidia ide drivers.
I never had a problem with my maxtor.

Yes, and an older version to boot. Use the latest 6.53 drivers from the nVidia website. Don't load the AUDIO driver portion if you are going to use something besides the on-board sound, and even then I recommend going to the www.realtek.com.tw site to get the latest drivers if you are going to use the onboard sound in lieu of the nVidia ones (the nVidia audio drivers are only updated with each driver pack release, and Realtek updates the driver regularly). The audio portion of the nVidia drivers are perpetually outdated.

Edited to say:

Whether or not you have trouble with the IDE Software driver depends upon your hardware mix. I never use Maxtor drives as they have a high failure rate and I have had horrible experiences with them in the past. I use only three manufacturers, in the order from best to least best: Hitachi, Seagate, Samsung. None of the those drives run into issues with the IDE Software driver.

It seems that most of the problems that users think are caused by the nVidia nForce4 drivers can be prevented if you install addtional drivers, patches, etc after WinXP, in the following sequence:

1) install the WinXP SP1/SP2 (SP2 recommended)

2) install the nVidia latest NF4 version 6.53 chipset drivers

3) install all other required drivers

4) install all your applications and games

If you stick to this sequence, your system will run stably without issue (Xtreme OCing excluded) :)

I've got a slipstreamed version of SP2 so should I install NF4 drivers right after installing windows or should I use Windows Update to patch everything first?

Also, does anyone use NVIDIA's firewall software?

Yeah, in that case, you want to install the NF4 drivers straight after installing WinXP.

That's what I did and haven't run into any problems since putting this baby together two days ago.

Thanks for the help!
