Should I use step-up program to get a 7800GT?

I bought an eVGA 6800GT on June 28 for $320 (before tax and shipping) on NewEgg, and so I have until Sept. 28 to use the "step-up" program to trade it in for a better nVIDIA card. I figure that if the 7800GT drops in price to <$400, it is a good buy, no?

Oh, but I forgot to mention that my mobo is AGP only, so nVIDIA must release an AGP version of a 7800 for me to take advantage of the offer. You think they'll do it by mid-September?

Give us a sec to call up Nvidia and ask. I'm sure the NDA won't matter if we ask nicely.

Hehe Tebor0. OP, just wait til tomorrow and you'll have a lot more info. Your pretty much asking this question just one day early. Have patience. But I think that the step up would be a good idea if they offer it in AGP.

Do it. I'm trading up my 6800GT for a 7800GTX right now (shipping it off this afternoon). It's a great program, and they'll credit you for the full price you paid for the card.

I've been thinking about stepping up to the KO version of the 7800GTX. As much as I paid for my "vanilla" GTXes, I woudln't be out too much. My main thinking isn't performance, but resale value. I imgaine that the KO's will fetch a bt more next summer than the regular version.

The step up program is great. I sent in my original evga GTX for one of the KO's. Only .99 more(+tax and shipping). Decided to go ahead and order a 2nd one too so I wouldn't have to wait for the step up card to get here. Hopefully they ship it today...anyway if they came out with an AGP 7800GT I would say do it. A lot more performance for a little more $$. Like others have said, I don't think there will be an AGP versoin right away though.

From the looks of it, nvidia is going away from AGP completely, according to them (most likley a reliable source), they will never make an AGP card again.

I'm still on the fence on what to do. I'm waiting till tomorrow to see what happens with the whole power of 3 nonsense and see how prices are affected. If I can get a GTX for around $450 then I may just buy and sell my 6800gt pci express (bought mine on the same day you did) on ebay and hope I don't lose too much money when compared to what I might have spent if I went with the step up program. plus, i wouldn't have to be without a pc for more than a week.
