Should I use scholarship money now or later?

So I live in California and all, and if you score in the top 5% of the state or 10% in your school (I'm pretty sure, or was it vice versa?) you get a nice $1,000. So I got it and all, and I'm able to use it now that I'm in some college courses. I've spent $200 of my own money on textbooks recently..and was deciding to use the money for tuition when the time comes. But should I use the money now, or wait? What are the pros/cons of each? It'd be essentially the same right, except if I use it now I'd have to fill out a form every time, whereas when I pay for the $4,000 tuition or whatever, it'd be a one time thing?

Thats the easiest damn money ever, I got the $1000 and I'm pretty sure I scored a 4 or a 5 on my AP Calc test. Combined with my 5 on AP bio I should get another $2500.

You might as well use the money now, the interest rate is like nothing. And since you didn't have to spend that $1000 i guess you could invest it in something else and get a better rate of return.

They probably spent more money on mailing out the letter a second time due to incorrect SSN#'s than they will spend on interest

Its from scoring highly on the star tests, stupid standardized tests that calfifornia uses to rank its schools.

Be like many other students, spend it on food, computers, and beer!

But I do hope that you do use it on education... dont cry if you cant pay later!

When was this? It's only been active for the past year. Meaning it'll only count if you took the test two years ago in '99.

I dunno, GoldenBear... you seem to think you know more than everyone else on this board, so I don't think you'll have any problem making the right decision here. My guess is you're asking this question so you can flame someone for their opinion.

My suggestion: take the money, cram it up your immature ass, and light it.

Doesn't scholarship money have to be spent on school? Isn't that what it's meant for? I never got any :( so I don't know for certain but I'd have to guess that you couldn't use it for anything other than school.
I would suggest using it now.

Wow I never realized how many 7-year-olds browsed this board..

And I never knew they had computers at day-care centers?

When you learn to develop a real argument (one that you didn't learn to formulate in some half-ass community college), come try again. You think you'll actually get into Berkeley with witty thinking such as "they must have computars in daycare now u 7 yr old plz thx"... gimme a break.

Nobody cares about your measly $1000 scholarship from the state of California... any drooling moron can score in the top 10% of their school if they just show up to class, do basic math, and read at a 4th grade level.

You don't need anyone's help to spend your money... you're a big boy (or so you claim), so I think you can figure it out yourself.

If your definition of a "real argument" consitutes lines like "stick it up your immature ass", then uh, I'll have to try harder I suppose. Did you learn those at MIT?

But really now, where do you come off saying that? In fact that line right there is as good of an argument as you've ever had..

Oh well, if you're content of spending your summer off, or worktime, or whatever refuting every comment I have to say, then so be it. I for one, will find something better to do..

Have fun.

And..I do think posting this thread was helpful, are you just too blind to see that? Up until your post there's been a multitude of helpful comments, and again, up until now, I don't think I've refuted any of them..

So until you can come up with a post that doesn't contain the word "ass" or one that doesn't resemble one thought up with the brain of a 6-year-old (and I apologize to any 6-year-olds here for comparing you guys with him), you, sir, are on ignore: population you, and those like you.

I wouldn't consider bragging to people about a wimpy $1000 scholarship (which California hands out to anybody with a pulse) "something better to do."

So far as your naivety is concerned, reference this thread.
