Hi guys,

I'm thinking about putting together a HTPC but I don't plan on watching any live TV on said PC - it'll be mainly for DVDs, music, and any miscellaneous videos that I have on the PC that I feel like watching. Should I install MCE2005?

I did do some basic research, but all the reviews of MCE2005 focus on the live TV watching experience rather than DVDs and music. If not MCE2005, what else would you guys suggest? Note that I will probably be using the remote for MCE as well.

Thanks,
FK

Well, I've used Media Center 2005. I also did not watch any TV on it but mostly used it to watch DVDs, music I prefered on Windows Media Player 10. For DVDs it is a good interface, music interface I've not used much as it was my primary desktop not a HTPC so WMP 10 was more "simple" given the lack of remote.

MCE is a good interface for videos. I don't like it for audio, though. It's sorted by album, genre or artist, it's not very intuative, and the remote is lousy for searching for singles to play.
