Should I use a hub or a switch?

I need to split a connection to two devices. One is a Directv receiver and the other will go to a popcornhour. The main line will come off a 4 port router. Should I use a small switch or a hub to split the signal?

BTW, is it worth it to use a gigabit switch? I do plan on upgrading to a gigabit router in the newr future.

If you already have a hub, use it. If not, buy a cheap-o switch (gigabit if you plan on upgrading everything to it anyways - the switches are cheap enough).

thanks for the quick replies guys. I do not have a hub or a switch to use but I'll be buying a gigabit switch to use there since that is the route I'm going with the nework.
