Should I upgrade?

I currently have a 1700+ running ~2.3 on an NF7-S. I can get ahold of a 2.4/2.6C and an Abit IC-7 Max2(the one with gigabit LAN, 2 SATA ports) for around 200-250 after I sell mine. Am I going to notice a speed difference assuming I can get the P4 up to around 3.0Ghz. I don't want to hear about how AMD roxors Intel, or vice versa, or how AMD is a better value. All I wanna know is will I notice a big enough speed difference for it to be worth it? Thanks.

Most likely not. My 1700+ at 2.083 (2600+) is plenty fast. Chances are, if you're asking, you don't need to upgrade (so others have said).

2.3GHz is like faster than all AMD chips at stock clock speed. It's probably like 2900+.

Not unless you have the Radeon 9800 Pro to go with it. For 200-250 a 9800np would be a much better upgrade than a motherboard swap.

As far as the 9800 goes, I already have a Built By Ati 9700 that is pretty good. I put some aftermarket cooling on it and it runs 400x360 for benching, run it at a solid 375x340 or so for gaming, and I haven't found anything that makes it choke. So I probably wouldn't see any performance increase with the 2.4C and the Abit board versus my current setup, others agree? Would especially like to hear from folks that have owned/used both.

Not worth it IMO. You might see some difference but not $200-250 I don't think. Now if you got the money to blow then go for it.

IMHO probably not.

For $250: faster/more memory or a Raptor HD/SATA card

it depends what kind of stuff you use your computer for. if it's for basic office computing and gaming, then probably not. and definitely not for 200-250.
