Question Should I upgrade Win-11 with 22H2 ?

Hi,

I am getting a workstation from Dell with Win-11 for Workstation & they are going to configure everything in factory before shipping & then come to my place & install it because they say I have ordered " ProDeploy " which I didn't but it showed up later in quote. I had asked only for onsite basic installation to make sure that everything is running because last Workstation I had ordered 2 months ago didn't work despite Dell's 7 technicians & engineers worked on it online & in person for two months but couldn't make it work & finally they took it back. I am not running any business & this system is for my personal use.

But they are asking me not to get Win-11 with 22H2 update because they say it is unstable so they are advising me to go for Win-11 without 22H2.

(1)
So my question is, if that is true & what kind of problems you guys are having with Update 22H2 ?
(2) Am I going to miss out on any new features in 22H2 & what they are.
(3) If I insist on Win-11 with 22H2 & if any problem whether hardware or software arises soon or in future they will blame me & say " We had warned You "

Please advise.
Thank You

I'm running 22H2 without any issues so far. Haven't noticed any real benefits, while I have noticed one major downside: they got rid of the "disk cleanup" button in the disk properties popup.

You didn't mention exactly what's not working and what hardware/components you have, how do you expect getting any help?

In another post of yours that you are getting Dell 5820 (CPU probably is XEON W-2223 ?), which don't have performance/efficiency cores like 12Gen CPUs which Win11 optimizes on, maybe just stay with Windows 10?

My first line says I am getting & not I have.
I have extensively described what I am trying to say & clearly asked the questions.
And I have ordered Workstation 5820 with Xeon W-2235, 16GB ECC, Two M.2 NVMe and Three 4TB Enterprise SATA with Win-11 Pro For Workstation.
Would that help ?
So please help me with 3 questions I have listed if you can. I would be grateful.

This was what you said:

Don't know what software you are going to use, but 16GB RAM is just way too little in modern computing. Especially you will have 12 monitors? (stock trading?) You will run out of memory very soon.

And what are your new configured workstation's GPUs? If you are talking about 12 x1080p monitors, why not replace them with 3 x 4K monitors (or large screen TVs)? All you need is one GPU

And what did Dell tech guy tell you what's causing stability issue if they install Win11 22H2?

No one can tell you about what is going to happen to your new setup because no one is going to have the same hardware components as you.

If you are so worried, then get Win 10 installed. You can always upgrade later yourself. Win11 really is just a UI face lift in most conditions.

==

By the way, just curious why do you choose Xeon and Windows Pro for Workstation? What specific features you want/need from both?

Two NVIDIA T-1000 Quodro now because they won't give 3. I will buy it & install in one X16 slot with 8X electrical. Those 3 will run 12 Monitors ( 1920x1200 ) It should work, right ?

And what did Dell tech guy tell you what's causing stability issue if they install Win11 22H2?

I think he said unstable & drivers & they are working with Microsoft blah blah
By the way, just curious why do you choose Xeon and Windows Pro for Workstation? What specific features you want/need from both?
Well when you are not a IT Pro, you have to go by advice from others & someone said that my previous workstation 3660, that I returned had i-7, 12700 which supports only 20 PCIe lanes Vs Xeon supports 48 & that is why I had resolution problems with 3660 & MOBO had only one X16 & 2 x4 & they shoved two NVIDIA T-600 in them, one in a cut out end x4 & Dell hires subcontractors & they higher even cheaper guys from the street who don't their %&*#$ so 7 of them couldn't make it work & finally took it back.
I was not worried until they said not to get 22H2 now & it makes system unstable & they only give Win-11 Pro for Workstation with Xeon rigs.
Only special feature I need is the larger text size due to 12 x 24 inch screens & I have to stay at least 5 feet away to keep an eye on all of them. I tried it really hard with Win-11 in last system that I returned with different combination of Text & Scale but it didn't work. Any suggestion ?

After this rig, i don't have resources to buy new displays at this moment & I am used to 12 & I love it.

Dell rips you when it comes to getting RAM & HDDs, SDDs & GPUs. Almost everything from non Tech guys.

I have to tell them which option I want from below :
  • Load a generic/ready Image
  • Load an Image: WIM; Ghost; ISO; or ImageAssist

So please suggest.

So neither ECC memory or Windows Pro for Workstation required.

You are correct that 12gen CPU only support 20 PCIE lanes. I'm a networking guy, not a hardware guy. however.

But I guess if you get 12gen CPU and motherboard, you can get 2 GPU running in 8x electrical and one GPU in 4x electrical.

You still did not say what software you are running. If not playing 3D games, I don't see big problems. Text & Scale issue shouldn't has relationship with GPU performance or PCIE lanes. It's definitely configuration issue.

Some vey old monitor's resolution can't be detected correctly and that might cause issues. One of my Panasonic 1080p TV can only work in one resolution - 1776x1000 pixels. Nothing else works.

Better take your question to GPU or motherboard subforums, you will get more professional answers there.

The disk image choice really doesn't matter in my opinion.

Dell's custom built PC will be expensive, that's the way it is.

You can buy the basic config and do the upgrade your self, it's really not that hard. Or try other vendors.

==

OK , AMD Ryzen CPUs have up to 24 PCIE lanes. I still don't know how intensive your graphics need is, however, so still take your question to the other 2 subforums.

Another issue is, whether your last system had too few memory that causes swapping so it slows down too much.

Anyway, if you really need 3 x16 PCIe lanes, you can use Intel XEON or AMD ThreadRipper (56 lanes), that expands your options a bit.

Build your Lenovo ThreadRipper P620 Workstation 3 year on-site service

Add your own extra 2 quadro T1000 later yourself, will be a lot cheaper

4 x 16 and 2 x 8 PCIe lanes

Apparently you can plug in 3 GPUs

Too late for that because I have already paid for it & it is ready to go for production as soon as I tell them my choices from following:
  • Load a generic/ready Image
  • Load an Image: WIM; Ghost; ISO; or ImageAssist.
  • Custom BIOS configuration
  • BIOS Logo Flash - Please provide us with the logo preferably in black background in BMP format (256 color) with a resolution of 640 x 480 upto 2 mb size.
  • Asset Label/Tagging – samples below.
  • Standard Asset Report
  • Onsite Installation

What does Dell Image Assist do.
Thank you for the link.
Watched the video but too technical & do I need it ? I don't know.
Would choosing following be ok ?
  • Load a generic/ready Image
You still did not say what software you are running. If not playing 3D games, I don't see big problems

I mostly do stock charting & that too with mostly Tick charts if you are familiar with it. I do not play any games, never had & even don't know how to.
I use eSignal software for charting.

Imaging usually means system installation, backup & recovery methods.

I guess just choose Ready Image and Dell Image Assist. I didn't really view the videos though. Ask Dell for more details.

I don't believe you need to do these tasks often though.

I did do stock trading a long time ago, but did not make any money. I also do know tick chart and eSignal. Stock trading charts are just 2D so it's really not graphics intensive as 3D gaming. So the graphics cards you choose (Quadro T1000) definitely can serve you well.

So the graphics cards you choose (Quadro T1000) definitely can serve you well.

I am thinking about adding 3rd Quodro T-1000 in X16 with 8 electrical slot so I can use my other 4 monitors.

Currently I am using 10 year old THREE AMD ATI FirePro 2460, 512MB to run 12 Monitors. So adding a 3rd Quodro shoud work right ?

OK. So if you already have three AMD ATI FirePro 2460 and they can drive 12 monitors, why do you need quadro t1000 at all?

They are not compatible with Win11? So you already ordered 2 T1000 and want to add 3rd to replace all AMD Fire Pros?

Graphics cards running in x8 electrical should not be an issue however since 2D charting is not going to use a lot of bandwidth.

Quadro T1000 Spec:

if bandwidth is cut in half then it's still a whopping 80G Bytes/s.

If every pixel of 1920x1200 monitors needs to be redrawn, with 4 ports, then just 1920x1200x 3 bytes (red, blue and green dots for millions colors for each pixel) x 4 = 27,648,000 bytes need to be redrawn. A lot less than 80GB/s

Out of school for a long time, I hope my calculation is correct.

Bloody Windows, the update said over a week ago, it was there for my system, now a Coming Soon message, which leads to link about Safefuard holds.

This seriously goes to show the MS lack of competence, Gee it was ready, now we screwed up, and you’ll have to wait... LOL

I seriously would not jump on board just yet, better to wait, unless you’re not doing anything serious with your system, and you could care less.

I've had no problems updating. Whenever it said the update was available for one of my computers, I just click update and away it went.

Seriously, rhetorically speaking, I don’t get MS stupidity to push an entire new OS Build as just some small typical update. This is one fine bloody way of running into problems.

If you want to upgrade and do it right, download it, put it on a USB and install it fresh. ;)
