Should I upgrade to Windows 7?

I need to reformat my pc this weekend and I am wondering if it would be worth putting Windows 7 on.

Currently I am running 32 bit windows xp. I meet all the minimum requirements. Here are my specs given from the upgrade text.

Windows Aero support

Your graphics adapter supports the Windows Aero user interface.
Go online to learn more about Windows Aero

CPU speed: 3.2 GHz

Your CPU meets the 1 GHz minimum requirement.

1.0 GB of RAM

Your PC meets the 1 GB minimum requirement.

28.5 GB free space available on C:

Your hard disk meets the minimum requirement of 16 GB free space for 32-bit Windows 7.

The main debate I have is should use the recovery XP disc or go ahead and install Windows 7. I already have an unused copy of Windows 7 from the 50 dollar preorder promo. I don't want to waste the license if it wont do me any good.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Win7 is nice. The only thing I would suggest is looking into getting upto 2GB of ram. Win7 is smoother on 1Gb of ram compared to Vista. But it isnt exactly lightning quick either.

I've been thinking of upgrading the ram. Would their be any benefit to upgrading it past 2GB? I really don't run any heavy apps on the pc.

Certainly not as much as going from 1 GB to 2 GB.

Personally, I think Win7 is a nice improvement on XP. I run both because I have hardware and software that won't run under Win7/Vista. But if your peripherals and software are recent, you shouldn't have a problem.

I have (had) a 3.4GHz (Pentium D) with a 512MB video card and 3GB of RAM. It ran Windows 7 just fine. Upgraded from XP 32-bit. I noticed very little (if any) performance differences between the two OS's. I have now dropped in a Quad Core Q6600, so it is really snappy 🙂

When ripping a DVD and streaming a video and playing Bloons TD4 I noticed some slowdown.
So I got 8 gigs and havent had any more issues.
RAM is cheap. Go buck wild.

Or install Linux and do the same things with 1 gig.
:awe:
