Should I upgrade to Win98SE? Video editors?

I need some input here.

I recently installed Premiere 6 on my machine, and somehow the DV camcorder, connected to the FireWire card, is not detected ("Offline" status all the time)

Apparently, Premiere 6 works with Win98 SE, not the regular Win98.

The Ulead program also seems incapable to see the camcorder (which is a bit bizarre, since before Premiere 6 I had Premiere 5, and Ulead was working then.)

So, should I upgrade? Do I risk anything by performing this upgrade?

I was using Premiere 5, then 6 both on Win98SE with no problems. I'm using 2k now and I must say that it definitely seems to be faster.
