I am now running Tbred 1700+ at 2.3ghz... (with headroom to spare)

Lately I have seen lots of people hitting 2.5+ with a Barton 2500+.... its tempting for me to upgrade....

I know that barton has 512kb of cache opposed to 256kb with tbred...

so who think i should upgrade?

Come on, you know you want to.. You can almost feel the envy of all your friends as they see how you can churn out seti@home packets faster then their piddly little toy computers. You could frag like there is no tomorrow and no one could ever stop you! You would be invincible!! hahaha!!!

Lots of people hitting 2.5GHz+ with insane voltage. I personally don't think those CPUs will last too long. I personally don't think it's worth it and doubt you'd even notice the speed difference.

i wouldnt, the performance increase wouldnt be that much, esp since you got headroom on the chip

unless, you can snag $50-60 for the chip (which you easily can) on FS/FT, i wouldnt upgrade

i have to spend about 85-100 dollars on it....

ya....the more i think about it its not justified anymore

with new sockets coming out...socket A is going to die.....
and PCI-e is on the corner.......so.....i am going to save up.............................. for my next major upgrade

I made the jump from an 1800+ to a barton 2500+ and I couldnt be happier. Sold my old chip, upgrade cost me bout $40-50 and the speed upgrade was definetly worth it.

Nope, it's a DDR KT266a, but overclocking sucks.

I have the EXACT setup.. 2.3GHz with headroom and all :) Didn't want to run it higher because of all the heat.. trying to silent my PC here.

Pondered upon that question a few days ago regarding my rig. I won't be making the upgrade as the increase in 100-200 Mhz would not justify the cost.

I got this Xp1700 for 35 dollars and a Mobile 2500 is at 100 dollars now. What do you think? :)

i had an 1800+ also which burned out on me so i upgraded to the 2500+ (going for about $80 now at Newegg). i have the fsb cranked up to 400 mhz making it into a 3200+ 2.2 Ghz (which goes for $215 now) and with the 512 kb cache i think i've definitely seen better performance gains. i'd go for the 2500+ or mobile upgrade if i were you.
