well, i'm giving my second system to my father. it's currently got a xp2400+, and a K7S5A pro (rev 5) board. i'm wondering if it'd be worth it to go to a newer board for purposes of stability (its currently stable, but i'm still worried about it). if so, what board would be best? this is a cheap system, i'm changing a few things to make it more stable (maybe mobo, and case/power supply.. looking at antec case with 300 watt p/s) suggestions on the motherboard? i'm currently looking at the Asus A7n266-VM board. it's an Nforce board, and i'm curious as to whether it'd be worth it to go to Nforce2 (and if so, what board would you reccommend?)

Well, what does he use the computer for? If it's just to cruise the web and write email and do word processing, I would say you are fine. If you upgrade the PSU, it will likely make any instabilities with this board vanish. K7S5A is a decent board for low-mid uses. If he is a heavy gamer, then yeah, an NForce2 is a good upgrade...allows u to up the CPU later if you want. Look a NF7 or NF7-S or if you are value minded...check the Shuttle AN35N Ultra or the Shuttle MN31N. I don't really know of a "bad" NForce2 mobo...just depends on your needs/wants and your budget.

SInce it's your dad, it's not likely he's into fraggin a lot...maybe an occasional DOOM player or something, no? I would say he is sitting good with the setup as is...but getting a new mobo will enable future upgrades. That AN35N is a nice, inexpensive board!
