Should I upgrade the Memory, or Hard Drive in my laptop?

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series touchscreen laptop, with a 7th Gen Core i3 CPU, 6GB of DDR4 ram, and a regular 1TB hard drive.

The laptop runs kind of slow at times.

I am low on cash, and only have enough money for a memory upgrade, or an SSD upgrade.

I could either upgrade the memory to 12GB, or 16GB max, or a can upgrade the hard drive to something like a 480GB Samsung Evo 860 SSD. I just do not have the money to do both upgrades at this time.

So, would like recommendations on which upgrade would give my laptop a better boost (an SSD upgrade, or a memory upgrade)?

Thanks for your opinions about this.

another vote in favor of the SSD.

I upgraded a core 2 duo at 2.4ghz and 4 gb equipped laptop with a SATA SSD and the difference in how responsive the laptop felt was Night and day.

It just felt faster and snappier to respond to user inputs.
