currently have an old c2d(2160) @ 3ghz running on abit ip35.

I was thinking about getting a e5300 or e6400k and see if I can get close to 4ghz (on air).

is e5300 or e5200 best choice for o/c on this socket?

should I not upgrade now and perhaps wait for i7 ?

the E7xxx are great, O/Ced or stock.

what video card do you have? you may not need an upgrade at all. normally, investing in GPU is better than investing in CPU.

What's your current CPU not doing that you would like the new one to do? Or are you just looking to tinker with something new? :D

I think you should sit tight we got Intel Gulftown on the way; prices of chips will drop dramatically; get RAM or a video card upgrade much smarter upgrade. gl

invest the money in a new GPU, like ATI 5850.

Well power draws are when you game or do intensive stuff.

Usually a average comp takes on avg , including idle loads about 280w to 350w

So electric bill should be good to go .. gl

Personally I would not upgrade from a dual core to another dual core. If you're not happy with your current processor you would see a good performance increase by getting a quad core. If you're getting OK performance with it, just wait until you can afford to upgrade your whole build to either Intel's new "i" line of CPUs or a AMD Phenom II.

e7200. Easy OC to 3.8 on about stock volts for me. Worthwhile upgrade in my opinion.

It's just not worth upgrading from dual core to another dual core, unless for really cheap.

I saw those Q6600s for $150-ish on ebay and I just can't justify paying that much for a used CPU. I'm actually considering selling my current cpu+mobo and getting a PhII + mobo.

hmm. I guess waiting for the next (i5 or i7) cpu would be a better option.

I just wanted to tinker with it a bit. I wish it would render a bit faster but $150 for a used q6600 is too much. e7200 costs around $100 here and e5200 can be had for about $50.

thanx for the input :) ill sit tight for now.
