Should I upgrade my video card or CPU for gaming?

Here is my system:

Asus P5B-Deluxe Motherboard
Intel Core 2 E6600
2GB RAM
EVGA 8800 GTX 768MB

Monitor: Dell 24", 1920x1200

Playing the latest games (eg. Crysis, Dead Space, [soon-to-be] Far Cry 2, Call of Duty 5, etc) at 1920x1200 is giving me really low framerates so I'm thinking that it's time for an upgrade.

Should I upgrade my CPU or video card? I need to stay under $500 (hopefully under $450 or so)...

Will this be possible? What should I get? (eg. if I should get a video card then which one?)

Thanks for any advice!

Rule of thumb is GPU.

I'd OC that E6600 and go with a 4870x2 on a black Friday deal or a GTX 280 if you're in a hurry.

e6600 should easily hit 3GHz.

Are you on XP or Vista? If XP - 2GB is fine, if Vista you want 4GB.

Actually the 4870 1GB would be a nice bump up for you, the X2 or the GTX 280 would be even more significant.
