Should I upgrade my monitor?

My current monitor is a 17" that came with my first computer. The best resolution it will do is 1024x768@75Hz. I am considering a Sony E540/B 21-inch FD Trinitron from Dell.

I can get it for $430.49 shipped using todays coupon.

Is it worth spending this much on a monitor, or will i regret it later?

You'll never regret a larger monitor.... unless you're dealing with small spaces.

I would difinatly go with a 19 or 21in .. or another 17in and go the dual monitor route. (or a pair of 19in for about $400).

That 21 looks nice, but it does not support 2048x1536, probably means that at 1920x1440 it runs at a low refresh (ie 60 or 70). I would maybe look around and see something that can do 2048x1536@75hz or higher, unless you plan on running at 1600x1200 or less. (imo a 19in or a high quality 17in is perfect for 1600x1200)
