Should I upgrade my modem

Hello,
Does anyone know if a 56k hardware modem is better than a 56k Winmodem on a 450 PIII? If so please tell me which internal modems are ideal.
Thanks.

I think there variables that make this question difficult to answer. My neighbor used to max out at ~47k connection speed with his brand x Winmodem. I get "53"k with a decent external 56k. Some folks report no decrease in connection speed(compared to hardware modems) with Winmodems.

This is not a download speed issue but a system resource issue. Don't bother, a winmodem doesn't really use that much resources and your computer is plenty fast to handle it easily. A hardware modem will not necessarily increase your connect or download speeds.

That's probably something with your phonelines, or it could be a setting on the modem. If you're maxing out at 14.4, give tech support a call (not the ISP). If it is a phone line issue, you are probably SOL. Around here, the phone compnay guarantees data connections up to 14.4, but that's it.
