I have a 1000/133 t-bird right now with 512MB PC133 Crucial Ram, Retail ATI Radeon 8500 64MB on an Iwill KK266+...I'm not really a hardcore gamer or anything...I only really play Jedi Knight 2 and Warcraft III, Should I upgrade to a 1.33/1.4 ghz t-bird for like ~$60? Would I see a significant performance increase?

I have about the same combo and I am about to upgrade to a Barton 2500+ and a LanParty motherboard....you should pick up one of those $79 2200+ and ECS mobo from Fry's.....too cheap not to upgrade.

I'm agreeing with the Pick up a frys XP 2000+ with an ECS board from Frys. It'll cost you like 70 bucks, still be able to take your old ram, and you can sell your old board and cpu for some money in the For Sale forum.

I'd say you'd notice the difference in that, but not between the 1ghz t-bird and a 1.4 t-bird.

Don't bother.

*EDIT* I'd do the Fry's deal. But I'd probably try getting the XP2400 at least.

I would, if you had 60 bucks to blow, just because then you would know your system is at peak performance and was not really upgradable anymore. ;)

Send me your old CPU. :p

<-- Duron 850 @ 1GHz on a KK266-R.

good god thats old. and spending 60 on an old chip? bad idea. as someone already stated, frys combos can be had for about the same, giving you a new faster m/b with a buncha new goodies like onboard sound/lan usb 2.0 ports etc. ecs m/b also takes pc133:p

much of the time the combos are retail cpus, so cooler is even included

to run newer games acceptably even at lower resolutions to keep your videocard from pooping out, your cpu is definetly reequired to be faster

If you don't absolutely require it, you might just end up regretting the purchase.

Umm why not upgrade the Motherboard to a Nforce2?

Overclock Tbird

-1250 with a FSB of 166
-1500 with a FSB of 200

Sure Tbird runs really hot..have a good cooling system (watercool if needed)

That T bird has some life left it in :)
