Fortunately you only have to pop in a new processor and memory... when I upgrade I'll have to start over from scratch (current PC is a Dell that I upgraded myself).

I agree.

Then get video, then CPU :)

Tbird 800@1gig, radeon 7200 (the original one), 512mb DDR.
~3800 3dmarks.

Got a GF3 Ti200, went to ~7000 3dmarks.
Gota Tbred 1700 @ 2200, I'm @ ~9150 3dmarks.

I'm asking myself the same question. I don't really need an upgrade, but the Compaq deal at Staples is pretty tempting. I can't believe I would say that about a Presario. So far I've resisted because DDR RAM is pricey. I want at least 1 GB for starters.

They don't run fine though, they lag some, and it bugs me. :p

Thanks guys, I think I will look into upgrading my processor first, and then try the ram as suggested. Thats what I thought, but I wanted to be sure, I am far from an expert. :p Now hopefully, I won't forget my artic silver this time dammit!
Be sure to check to see if your motherboard supports Thoroughbred processors. I ordered a Tbred-B core AXP1700+ from Newegg and was shocked when it didn't work in my KT133A-based motherboard.

According to this table, it appears that your motherboard would support a .13 micron Tbred core CPU, so you should be ok if / when you decide to upgrade to a 1700+.

She has a ECS K7S5A, which supports the t-birds and XP athlons.
