I am looking to upgrade my 8800GTX card. Right now I don't know what card would be a could upgrade to this card. Any suggestions? I am looking at around 300 dollar range or less that can offer better performance then my 8800GTX at the 1680x1050 rez range.

Have a look at Lopri's very positive experience with a 4870 over 8800GT SLI here . A single GPU solution is always going to be better than a comparable SLI/CF.

Looking at bench reviews, the 8800 GT SLI beat the 4870.

And there's something cool about running 2 high-end cards on 1 system....but then again, having ddr5 is pretty cool too.

4870.

8800gt is no longer high end and never really was. and theres nothing "cool" about having 2 cards in one system when one card does the job. in fact, it'd be pretty HOT to have 2 x 8800gt in one system. double the heat inside your case, double the heat of the video cards, double the chances of a video card failure, double the power draw..

Had sli 7900 volt moded went to gtx same speed in games but 1 card
Went from gtx to 8800gt sli much faster then 1 gtx.
Now 1 4870 with 256 bus 512mem doesnt sound future proof.
Waiting to see 55m280 or a 4870x2 before i buy.

There is nothing wrong with a 256bit bus and 512mb of ram. The RV770 is MUCH more efficient with memory than the Nvidia counterparts so there is no point to having a wider bus width. Why take up an unnecessary amount of room on the silicon for a larger memory controller when a smaller one paired with high speed memory achieves the same job? Not only is it more cost efficient for ATI, it's also saves power and reduces extra heat that would come with a larger die due to a larger memory bus. Plenty of room here for 'future proofing' not to mention DX10.1 etc.
