Should I upgrade my 24" LCD monitor?

This Dell S2409W 24" HDMI is a few years old, and working great. I use it for my desktop PC (1920x1080) and for streaming movies. No real issue, actually. Just wondering, is there a worthwhile upgrade, or is 24" good enough? Am I even going to notice an upgrade to 27" ? What's the next common size? Not looking to drop any significant money on such a marginal upgrade, so that might be the decider.

I just spent nearly two whole days researching monitors to replace my 7yr old 24" but... now that I think of it I should upgrade my onboard (AMD NOT Intel so it's at least decent...) graphics BEFORE I go for 1440p, 2k or 4k lol.

You seem to be in the same boat... you need to seriously think about upgrading other things before you kick ole bessy to the curb. I think 1080p is quite good for what you have and unless you just insist on getting 144hz, upgrading would probably put your graphics needs into overkill. (and even than can you play 3d games at 100+fps? you don't list a graphics card so I'm assuming integrated ATI RAGE/ 240 or something thereabouts- yes ATI not AMD lol...)

Are 4K monitors out of the "early adopter" phase yet? I'm thinking of replacing my 23'' 1080p monitors with 24'' 4K monitors.

Once you've used something greater than 1080p you'll understand how much content you're missing on your screen. I'm at 1920x1200 and I want to see more which is why I have been eyeballing 2560x1440 34" screens.

These are 32" 😀 ... but other than that, you stand correct. 1440P is the cool resolution today, where you can do a lot with a single display. It makes 1080P ridiculous, just how 1080P retired 1280x1024 monitors.
BTW newegg.com has S32D850T on a sale, for a day.

i caved and bought a 1440p monitor the other day. it replaced 3x 1080p screens and i'll never go back.

Yeah, I was on two 1080s for a long time, and when I finally got a 2560x1440 it got quickly followed by another, a 3440x1440 for work and then a 3440x1440 for home because oh my goodness was it a big change. I will say that I don't feel vertically constrained on a 1440p screen and 4K doesn't have the height that I'd feel comfortable stacking windows in most cases, so it's kind of an upper limit to me for awesome modern monitors. I'd go for a 21:9 2160 tall screen but I'd be doing it for sharpness reasons not real estate. My Surface Pro 4 is running the rough equivalent of 1920x1200 (1.5x scaling on 2736x1824 ~= 1824x1216), and it's good but feels quite cramped compared to 2560x1440, which is a great spot if you don't want to mess with scaling or anything.
