Should i upgrade from Win 98 to Win 2k?

Someone told me that that Win 2k performs much better than Win 98. I hear it not only runs games faster, it has better TCP/IP software to run multiplayer games better as well. Can anyone verify this?

Also, what are the disadvantages of Win2k? Is there any popular software that won't run on it?

Here are my system specs:

Duron 700
256 Meg Ram
Abit Kt7a motherboard
Tnt 2 Pro graphics
SB Live Oem sound

You guys think i should upgrade to win 2k? Thanks in advance.

I would say yes. I lost some hardware support (Iomega Buz), but I think it's worth it. I'll never go back. I'll eat my own leg before I use ME.

Thanks for the input... someone said i should wipe my HD and do a clean install of Win 2k for best performance, can anyone verify this?

To tell you the truth, unless you have some specific reason(I.E networking) to upgrade, I would stick with what you have for now because Microsoft keeps changing operating systems like dirty underware. Give it a few months and see if what's going on then make a descison. Your money will collect a little interest in the bank

I agree with KBtn

Why switch? Theres nothing wrong with what you have now, and truth be told, if it aint broke, dont try to fix it. More than likely youll wish you hadnt. I have Win2kpro and WinME on two seperate hard drives and use a removeable hard drive rack and that works fine for me. That Dual boot crap is for the birds! I saw no noteable improvement from Win98SE to win2kpro in gaming. I use Halflife,TFC,Quake3Arena and UT. So if thats the only reason why your considering those other OSes, forget it.
