Should I upgrade from my Ti4200? (Budget $100-150)

I'm thinking about upgrading my video card, but I'm unsure of what to buy. I mainly play FPS games, so I'm hoping to get as much FPS boost as possible.

Can anyone recommend some cards between $100-150?

Here's my rig:

ECS K7S5A Pro with XP2000+ (no OC)
1GB DDR 3200 RAM
Visiontek Ti4200 128MB DDR

Thanks!

$100-$150 will only get you exactly what you're upgrading from or a 9600 pro. The 9600 won't be much of an upgrade as far as fps goes. To get much of an upgrade you're going to have to pay at least $210 for a 9700 np.

Ti4200 is still very capable card. I would hold on to it. I doubt any card in $100-150 will offer noticeable improvement over your current card.

You'll see a big performance gain from a 9600 Pro when you crank up the eye candy but I'd wait another month or so until the 9900 is released. That should bring down prices of the 9700 NP a bit.

yeah for now you will not really see any speed increases in your price ranges, only gain dx9 capabilities. i'd wait till the next generation of cards

You could always try trading your Ti4200 + as much money as possible for like a 9700 Pro. There have been a few threads in the FS/FT forum for people with Radeon's wanting to trade down. Good luck to ya! 🙂

A 9600 pro is just faster with aa and af enabled, plus it has dx9. With aa/af off they're about equal.

That may depend in a DX9 game like HL 2 the 9600 pro will own a ti 4200
