I've had a Canon A70 for almost about a year and I love it. I was thinking about gettin gan A80 ($289 at OneCall...last day). I love the flipping LCD screen (that could REALLY come in handy) and the bump in MP is nice as well.

But other than that, I cna't really think of anything that the A80 offers over the A70. Can anyone give me a brief run-down?

How does your Canon A70 compare to the Panasonic digicam you bought a while ago?

Which is better and why?

The A80 has a better AiAF (9-point vs 5-point), but besides that and the higher resolution, not much of a difference imo

It's about time I upgraded my A40 actually...

The Canon has a greater optical zoom, sharper image quality (Panasonic was a little soft on detail), and manual controls (which come in handy on occassion). Also, the Panasonic was 2.0MP

How do you like the A70's size?

If you want something more compact I'd go for the S500.

You have an excellent digicam just keep it and save your money.

JUST SAY NO TO UPGRADING :p

In theory the flip out display on the A80 sounds like a good idea.

In practice, the display is so small that it's difficult to see when you're holding the camera over your head or at arm's length (situations where you would have the display flipped open...).

Then it just becomes a pain to open the thing, flip it around, then fold it back into the camera whenever you want to use it.

In retrospect, I probably would have bought the A75 instead - larger display, better video capture.

Dude, ain't no way I'm giving up my flip LCD! I love every part of my A80. The flip LCD came in VERY handy when I was in Vegas. If I wanted a better camera, I'd upgrade all the way to a Canon EOS-1D Mark II. :)

My sister has an A70, and her ex-boyfriend had an A80. I recommended both of them, and got to play with both cameras. How about that... that cocky punk was useful for something after all :)

Honestly, I liked the A70 BETTER than the A80. The A70 has a better movie mode, and I liked the screen better than the puny little flip-out screen on the A80. The picture quality is about equal, unless you plan on doing some major cropping or printing out 8.5 by 11 prints.

I don't think so, save your money for a more significant upgrade later...

I have a A40 now. Been looking at updateing. I prefer the A80 though the A70 is pretty good also.

but then the A40 has filled my needs fine. though would like a higher MP. but so far all the stuff i have printed has been 4x6.
