Should I upgrade from 667MHz DDR2?

Hey all...

...wow, I haven't posted here in such a long time!

anyhow, I just ordered an HP Pavilion Media Center PC, and I configured it with 2GB of dual-channel 667MHz DDR2 ram (I could have configured it with 2GB of dual-channel 800MHz DDR2 ram, but it was more expensive than buying a 2GB dual-channel 800MHz kit by itself!).

the processor I configured with it is the Intel Core 2 Quad (which I believe runs on the 1066MHz bus).

would I be any better off getting the 800MHz ram over the 667MHz ram?

it's been so long since I've been in the hardware game, that I really have no idea!

Thanks!

you could usually run 667mhz ram at 800mhz with just a slight increase in voltage anyways. If you're looking to overclock, I'm guessing you're getting a quadcore with 9x multiplier?

well, i highly doubt the HP bios will allow for overclocking...i can't say for sure though since i don't have it yet.

would i get any noticeable increase in performance if i had 800MHz ram on this system?

I would say, you would not see any increase in performance with 800MHz ram. If your 667MHz ram runs fine at the FSB you desire, then 800MHz ram won't be any faster at the same FSB, (although higher rated ram might be able to overclock higher or with tightened cas timings and increased voltage)...but all ram is essentially the same. My cheapo 533MHz ram runs fine at 900MHz, for instance.
