I've been putting off updating my iphone OS to 3.0 because of all the reports of decreased battery life. Can anyone confirm this? Has Apple still not done anything to fix the problem?

My battery life seems to be exactly the same with 3.0 as itbwa with previous versions. I have however heard that the jailbroken 3.0 does indeed kill you battery moticaly faster, so I would hold off jailbreaking 3.0 till the bugs get worked out.

The question was:

"Should I update my iPhone to 3.0"

The answer was:

"Yes."

Also asked in the actual thread if anyone can confirm the battery issues. Your response was yes.

Anyway, it seems different people have different experiences with it. I could always try it. None of the 3.0 changes are worth a sacrifice in battery life though.

I have not had any problems with battery issues. I know that I use the battery a lot because I use the network a lot through IM and surfing the internet. I know to keep a USB cable handy so I can charge when I start running out.

While I haven't done extensive testing, I haven't noticed a difference in battery life on my iPhone 3G since upgrading to 3.0. If anything, it might be slightly better.

you can downgrade ... but its a pain and you can't downgrade the baseband once you're on 3.0 ... I didn't see any significant battery change as long as you're not using push notifications etc.

Is there a battery issue? Yes. Is there a wifi issue? Yes.

My 2G iPhone was updated to 3.0 and it was fine. No issues. My brother, also with a 2G iPhone, updated to 3.0 and had battery issues as well as spotty wifi reception. I had my iPhone next to his and I had nearly full wifi reception while his was only two bars.

Some are reporting only issues with battery life. Some only wifi. Sometimes downgrading and then upgrading back to 3.0 solves the issue. Likely it's a software issue and that whatever it is, it'll be solved in 3.1 if you want to wait for that.

I want to know when are we going to be able to send MMS? I was in the AT&T store today and asked a rep. They told me they thought with the last update that I was supposed to be able to, showing how much they know. Does anyone have any idea yet or are we still getting the "later this summer" answer?

Later this summer. There's still more than 2 months to go.

I followed the iphone dev team suggestion below regarding "setup as new" and had no battery problems w/ my 2g iphone when upgrading to 3.0

Unusual battery depletion is almost always caused by people choosing to ?Restore from backup? instead of ?Setup as new iPhone? when iTunes asks you. This isn?t caused by either the jailbreak or the unlock, but it?s a common 3.0 snafu. The fix is to just re-run the official 3.0 restore and choose ?Setup as new? this time. Your music and apps and all that will still be synced, but you?ll get rid of any conflicting wifi, bluetooth, or carrier settings. Then just re-run redsn0w and install ultrasn0w.

Oh yeah! I suppose I should mention I'm running 3.0 on a 3G!

I didn't think it'd be that big of a deal but I could never go back to 2.2.1 just because of landscape texting. SOOOOOO much easier!
