Should I unplug my PC when unused for an extended period?

Well. if it's not plugged into a UPS, then it could protect it from any potential surges or brownouts. It's probably a good idea to unplug it. It would also save a trivial amount of power from the +5vSB rail being on.

It wouldn't hurt anything. I usually do it when I'm away for prolonged periods. Especially if there is a good chance of thunderstorms. Our power grid is usually reliable here in Denmark, but you never know.

Yes always. I have this old monitor (I have more) and you can hear the caps whenever it's just in the plug 'humm', so yes always or get a dc with a power (off). 🙂

Yes, I have (and use) one of those multiple sockets with a power switch as well.

It also shuts off my screen and stereo.

Doesn't hurt unplug it since you won't be using it anyway. You never know when a freak storm or other power surge will happen, and unplugging is cheap insurance.
