After my first lite-on 1210b DIED on me after a firmware revision, I'm a little bit wary of buying another one from them. I really want the 24x, and everyone SAYS that lite-on is good, but should I put my faith in another brand? Meesa scared!
well i was moving my drive to another computer and i thought a firmware revision might help performance. sadly it KILLED it. but the thing is, firmware isn't supposed to flat out kill your drive...correct firmware revision has never corrupted any of my other hardware, so why should lite-on's kill my drive?
I don't know..but I killed my first Netgear RT314 trying to flash the firmware....so when I exchanged the messed up one....I didn't dare try flashing the replacement.
I made a system last week with a Lite-on 24x....and it seems fine........its really cheap which is the good part.....I don't have anything to compare it to....but I'm guessing its fine since it has burnproof...at least you won't get coasters......
I'm still using my TDK VeloCD 12/10/32......great drive.
I just bought a 24x liteon and received it this morning. I'm planning on doing the firmware update and I hope it doesn't screw up or something. Wish me luck.
