I got a pair of the 1.6LV Xeons a while back for 100 bucks. I have had them running upwards of 3.0GHz+, but didn't like the fan noise or the high temps during the summer, so I currently have them back down to 2.0Ghz. I thought I woulod get some good use out of them as I do some moderate multitasking, but really only with non CPU intensive programs, like firefox, email, word, mp3 players, stuff like that. I do some encoding and whatnot of movies, but not enough to say I am getting good use out of the duallys.

Plus I have had some very intermitent stability problems that I have never fully gotten worked out. When I first got the parts it took me forever to egt them working together without crashing eevery 5 minutes. I finally got passed all that. But still get a crash every once in a while, mainly when really taxing the system, like with encoding or whatnot. But the system can run 4 instances of prime 95 forever without crashing. So I am not sure what the issue is. But its not a big enough of an issue for me to really work very hard to try and solve it.

Anyway, I just saw in hotdeals. that microcenter has a 3100+ Sempron for 60 bucks. I figured I could pair that with maybe the lanparty 250Gb, and overclock the heck out of it. I knwo that one cpu will beat my cpu's by themselves, not sure how well it would compare to both fo them working at the same time. But even if I take a slight performance hit, it may be worth it for the less noise/heat and better stability.

Well IIRC, the 3100+ semprons are clocked 1.8GHZ. I would suggest a cheaper board than the DFI LP because Some of those new processors have a hard time getting past 2.4 GHZ. Something like the Epox 250GB, soltek, msi neo2 or chaintech will do. Make sure the mobo bios is compatable with the new 64 bit procesors also. If you really feel that you aren't getting enough out of your dual processors, and want to upgrade go ahead.

IMO, if you have had problems with the dual xeon setup, then you should defenetly look to either solve those problems, or get a new rig. 754 is a nice socket, and is a good performer. Also, maybe you should check out some of the PCI-E 754 mobos if you plan on upgrading the graphics card, unless you don't game at all :).
