Should I tip the guy the delivers my newspaper?

I'm trying to decide whether or not I should give the guy who delivers my newspaper a tip. I live in a townhouse where there are 4 apartment doors adjacent to each other with a 5 foot overhang in front of all 4 doors. The guy that delivers my newspaper in the morning leaves my newspaper at least 3 feet from my front door while he puts my neighbors paper right at her front door, somtimes even leaning it against the wall so its easy for her to get without leaving her apartment while I always have to step outside to get mine. When it rains out, he sometimes leaves my paper further away near the edge of the overhang, assuring that I will get wet and that my paper will be wet. There would be no extra effort on his part to deliver my paper the same way he delivers my neighbors since our front doors are next to each other. I've never tipped this guy in the past so I wondering if this is the reason why he does this. This would mean that he purposely places my paper further away. Since tips are usually given in appreciation for good service, it's clear that the service I get is not the same that he gives my neighbor. I fell like he's extorting me to give him a tip so that my paper is closer to my door when in reality he should deliver my paper the same way he delivers my neighbors and then I can decide to tip him. Should I tip in and hope he puts my paper closer or just say screw it and continue the have my paper left where he puts it now?

What about the mailman?

I always leave her a bottle of wine.
I leave beer for the garbage pickup dudes (they leave cards each year trolling for tips!).

If your front doors are next to eachother then just steal your neighbors paper. Yours is far enough away that it will look like the delivery guy screwed up thier delivery. You should tip the guy for christmas though.

Edit: Thought id be clever but fusetalk shut me down 🙁

for the holidays you should tip: Mailman, Garbage man, and the delivery boy, milkman... whatever stuff you get delivered on a regular basis year round 🙂

You my Sir are a Tool and are one of those people who complain about everything and make peoples lives miserable. Sh*T aint perfect buddy. I used to deliver papers when i was younger and talk about little pay. Tip the kid, walk outside grab your paper and shut your mouth. If you were a kid, delivery papers in all weather super early, would you care where the paper lands?? I mean hell we were suppose to through the paper on the doorstep but i threw it in thier driveways since most people have to walk down to grab there Philly inquire anyway

I agree.

They don't get tips every day or every week, but they deserve something around the holidays 🙂

Yes, tip the guy FFactory0x is right you cant be perfect all the time.
Look at it this way he brings it 2 steps from your door that beats walking to some store or machine to get it.
I to used to deliver papers when I was younger and, the hours and pay sucked.
Every paperboy looks forward to Christmas because of the fat tips. I used to clear 4-500 bucks at Christmas and it kept me happy for a few months when I was 10-14 years old.

I worked my way through college delivering 300+ papers at 3 in the morning using a jallopy Ford Ranger to get me from block to block and loading up a shoulder bag to make the deliveries. Sundays were hell on my shoulders and back.

Normally I'd toss the paper onto the porch from about ten to twelve feet away, maybe more, and as long as it landed on the porch and not in the bushes I didn't care if it was still five feet from the front door or not. UNLESS the customer had asked for specific delivery instructions. I had some who wanted their paper inside their mail slot, a paper box nailed to their house, or a even a milk crate and for those I had to walk up onto the porch rather than tossing it like the others.

So maybe your neighbor has asked him to prop it against the door, who knows. All you have to do is tip the guy nicely and at the same time put in your request for special delivery needs. In most cases, the delivery person will make a note beside your address in his route book and all will be well. If he still doesn't delivery the paper according to your request, THEN you can fault him for being a lousy delivery guy and put in a call to the newspaper's circulation dept. to remind him of your delivery request. If things don't clear up in a year then don't tip him next Christmas.

Sometimes I have trouble knowing which thread is the parody and which is the original. I guess I have to start writing down when the first message in various threads were posted...
