I have a c2 566@ 876mhz and it wont go higher. Would help if took off the feet from the pep so i could get more surface contact?(thats if there is any that not covered)
Has anybody done this? did it improved performance?

Take off all the grease, and hold the chip up to the PEP without anythign between them. Then hold the two fo them up to a bright light and look for gaps between the cpu and heatsink.

If there are no gaps, dont' bother taking the feet off. they help stabilize the chip.

Dont take them off -I did and had to buy a new sink...I thought the same that you were thinking but the heatsink just didnt want to stay on the chip evenly, so the temps got really high, and the core was starting to get scratched up (bad thing 🙂

how did the pep sit unevenly on a socket A chip? The feet on the duron/t-bird would have stabilized the heatsink.

And how on earth did that scratch up the core?

Take off the feet from pep66 but keep the pad on the CPU. With the feet on the pep66, the heat sink won't even touch the CPU. Remember to do so, otherwise you just burn your chip!

I had to sand off the feet on my PEP66 before it would fit properly on my C2 566@850. I had to really sand them WAY down too before I could get any contact with the top of the processor.

Very satisfied though - It reduced my temp. 3-4 deg. C compared to a Golden Orb.

Had to sand my PEP66 also. There was a clearly noticable gap when I did the original fit-up. It also made a difference which orientation so my chip face wasn't all that great either. I had to remove a good bit until I got solid contact on all sections. It did make a difference even with Artic Silver grease. Lark
