Should I Take My DVD Player Back?

Atrail

I bought a DVD player today, have not been home yet to mess with it. I choose the Panasonic
RV32K because of the recommendations I saw on this board for RV-31K. Hopefully it is just as good if not better. Anyway, should it bother me that the player does not have the Dolby Digital decoder or do I just need a receiver that does?
Thanks

If your receiver has a dolby dig. decoder on it... there is NO NEED for one on the DVD player. Save yer money. However, if you have a DD "ready" receiver, then you willl NEED a DVD player with a decoder on board, or you will need to get another Receiver.

I bought the RV31 even though it doesn't have the dolby because I have a dolby-enabled receiver to plug it in to. It's up to you whether to take it back and get one that'll do the dolby or just buy a dolby receiver. Heck, if you have infinite money go buy a big system with a new receiver and everything... 😉 I love this player, and have been very happy with it - mostly because it plays CD-R and CD-RW discs, and plays VCDs and mp3 encoded discs as well.

I am not sure how the on-board Dolby decoder DVD players work, but if it requires 6 cables to be hooked up to the amplifier, I would just stick with the RV32K. Too many cables to deal with.
