Should I take my chances with a store that has no return policy on LCD monitors for DEAD PIXELS...

I am thinking of getting this monitor for back to school:
http://www.eizo.com/products/lcd/S2110W/index.asp

There is only one distributor selling it in Canada and they are authorized by Eizo. I just spoke with them on the phone and they have that monitor for CDN$1599..

They do not offer any return policy and all sales are final. EVEN IF YOU HAVE DEAD Pixel.. They also told me that in the past 4 years they've been selling eizo monitors, not a single customer had dead pixel problem...

Should I take my chances and order it?

Absolutely, positively NO.

I don't know if it meets your needs, but you can get a Dell 2005FPW for less than $500. I just bought one and it's great... 3 year parts and labor, too ;) .

i've looked into dells before but i don't really like their quality :( Eizos have the best colour reproduction and screen luminance uniformity

Droool Eizo is the top quality, no doubt. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

did you look at a 2005FWP though? they trump all the 15inch, 17inch, 18inch, 19inch, and 20inch monitors that IVe seen. they are on sale for about $375 every few months.

yes, i have looked into dells and is not pleased with their quality. Even a Samsung 193P+ has better colour and picture quality than the dells and Eizos are in a different league :D

I am into digital photography and color accuracy is a MUST. ALmost all of the Best BUy monitors or regular dells offer only RGB color adjust, Eizos offer RGB + CMY

Have you asked Eizo for a list of suppliers?

As it is dead pixels are a fact of life with LCDs. If you send an LCD back to the retailer with a dead pixel, the only thing they can do is sell it as B-grade, opened, stock. The manufacturer won't have it back, and they can't legally sell it as a new item.

You will need to contact Eizo to find out what their policy is regarding dead pixels, if this is a major issue. (There are accepted standards on how many dead pixels, and their positions, are acceptable.) Bear in mind that Eizo's warranty (http://www.eizo.com/support/warranty/5year.asp) does NOT cover dead pixels.

It sounds like you need the quality of the Eizo screen more than you need a perfect no dead pixel screen. So maybe it would be reasonable to go to this retailer.

But, be warned, a lot of places use the phrase 'all sales are final' to justify poor customer service and refusal to grant you your legal rights. Make sure that you know the after sales service is good. If you don't know - then consider making a small purchase to make sure that things go smoothly and they are willing to help you out.

The warranty is fine, just that its by the manufacturer only.

I see no problems with that at all...no money back return options but so what.

If I were into digital photography, I definitely wouldn't get a dell. I have a few of them and am happy with their price and performance, but they are not adjustable enough for serious photography.

Mark R - that place is the only disti that carries Eizo monitors in Canada :( I got it from Eizo's website..

Yeah, I'd take the chance. Didn't think Dell allowed you to return a monitor with any dead pixels. Bought a 2005FPW hoping I would get a good one. Using it right now....zero dead pixels :D
