Dont look at graphics card names..look at SKU names.
GTX570 was todays GTX980TI(GF110 cutdown big die) and GTX670(GK104 cutdown mid range die) was 41% faster than GTX570 and 21% faster than GTX580(Full GF110Todays TITANX)

Also GTX670 predecessor was GTX560(GF114) and in that case GTX670 was around 90% faster.Yeah kepler was pretty big jump thats why NV was abble Rename GTX660TI to 680 and still beat AMD 7970...with GTX660TI sad.

Lets now compare GTX670(cutdown GK104) vs 970(cutdown GM204)Because GTX970 is successor to GTX670 and not GTX770 which was just rebranded GTX680.Also both cards was on same Node.Yet GTX970 on same node was 56% faster than GTX670.

Pascal 1070 is on new node, but brings same performance improvement as GTX970 vs 670 but those cards was on same Node.1070 is 56% faster than 970 but again its on new node.So its pretty bad compared to last node shrink when GTX670 ws 90% faster than its predecessor GTX560(Cutdown GF114) and even 21% faster than GTX580(its like 1070 was 21% faster than TITANX today)

Also if you compare all pascal cards GTX1070 is worst of all of them.It brings only 50-60% perf increse.GTX1080 brings 60-70% and GTX1060 80-90%.
This is because 1070 Its cutdown too much(its basically GTX1060TI)
Sad thing is Nvidia HAVE GTX1070 what should look like(2048SP and 4x GPC), but it will sale only in mobile segment. With 4x GPC and 2048SP it will be 10% and maybe even more faster than Currrent GTX1070 we have now in desktop(GTX1060TI) at same clock.

Cut down too much according to whom? Why are you comparing it with older gens? It has nothing to do with older gens...

I've been in the IT game for almost 20 years now, I never expect to resell anything, i tend to run it until the tires fall off so to speak, so if the 1080 gives me a few more months longer life over the 1070 in terms of performance, and gives me a better quality experience for the time I own it, I'll consider it a good day. When it comes right down to it, I make a very good living and really don't but much for myself. This is my one little treat for the next few years.

Great discussion though!

Enjoy, man. 1080 is a heck of a GPU.

I think it is even more than 21%..25-30% in most games because 3x GPC.
970 vs 980 was like 15%
670 vs 680 was 5%?
570 vs 580 10%?

Edit found crysis3 comparison. Its around 30% this time.1070 is even slower than 980TI because its in 4k and 1070 have only 3x GPC with 48rops

That video shows stock clocks... At max OC 1070 vs max OC 1080, the gap closes to about 21%.

The main problem with the 1070 is its 8 GHz GDDR5. Fortunately, it can OC close to 9.4-9.6 GHz with little difficulty.

With amd i always have multiple problems. (at the same time)
only to mention the last driver: (w10 clean install and update)

-you click on notification "upgrade" and it doesnt work
- you click on the amd panel to download the upgrade end it gives error
- you download it from amd site and your gui becomes slow after install
- you uninstall it and it gives you a error removing it
-you reinstall the old driver and ... another error

I have used amd cards for almost the last decade and I have experienced only the problems with upgrading the driver from the amd control panel. That was back in the catalyst control center days though. FWIW amd seems to have rectified that with the latest iteration of their control panel application. I wouldn't have any problems recommending amd products due to driver issues now.

That said, I made the switch to nvidia this generation with a 1070 FE, and now my computer seems to always restart upon waking from sleep, which I can only guess is some kind of driver issue. It's quite a bit more annoying than having to go to the amd website to get my driver updates. There's probably some way to fix it that I haven't bothered to explore yet though. Still, just shows you there's always going to be people with issues with anything you can name.

Not sure if the driver issues is the cause of the reboot from sleep, could be. Mine does not exhibit that behavior but I rarely put mine to sleep.
