Should I stress test new hard drives?

I've heard that defective drives will often be defective right from the beginning. If that's true, then would it be a good idea to stress the hell out of a hard drive before I put any data on it? When I say stress test it, I mean have it read and write for literally a week or two nonstop. I already have a program that can do this for me, so I just need some opinions of whether or not this is a good idea.

Most drives that are going to fail, do so in the first year of service.
I would thrash the drive for a year, then start using it in a normal manner.

* Make sure your HD is cooled well
* Make sure your HD is being fed power from a good quality PS.
* Don't move it around, mount it and use it.

All Hard Drives are subject to sudden failure so If you worried about data loss keep backups that are updated frequently. I recommend you learn to use ShadowProtect Desktop or Acronis True Image to make your backups.
