Hi.

I recently got free version of an iobit app to test.....tho I came to not trust them a while back, after, by accident, I came to test their stuff informally for Hugo there..... long story. I thought I might try it anyhow.

I am surprised to discover it is good in many respects, unlike similar multifunction apps.

Pls see the services it stops when I run it, in screenie below. It only stops them until you reboot, tho.

I would like to know if I should stop those services permanently in W7. when I mouse over individual services, I often cna not determine their respective importances. Some I turned off when I set the system up, but only a few.

Thanks!

better not touch those services, latter maybe the network printer stops working or similar things, unless you on a very old machine its wasting time.

you need to be more worried abouth uninstalling that systemcare utility, good luck getting rid of it, like malware tries to prevent it on passion :)

Hey.

Yes, I will stop perusing services to determine if any are useless. tho when set up this system, I did move some to manual rather than auto. I am not on an old system, and I have 8GBs of DDR3.

And yes, I already got rid of the iobit app. And, when I get rid of an app, trust me, there is nothing left of it. Including reg keys.

I should have learned re them long ago. I liked Hugo, he even sent me an Xmas video he made.....but, I then read that they STOLE their definitions bases form either either MBAM or Superantispy!!!!

Was a huge scandal online. I was stunned.

Thanks!!!!!!:)

PS: my BF, who is Apple all the way in everything, just got himself an Xmas gift: 27" imac with the best i7 chip they offer. It is gorgeous. It is also fast (tho he din get the SDD). But it is for people who do not really love or know about or fiddle with, or stress over their computers.

But it's impressive. I only fix systems of friends who run Windows. They and their kids too.

in the past i did some of those services tweaking, learned a bit, but not really improved perfomance at all hehe. now i just consider a waste of time O:)

one guide i followed for that was from tweakhound, explains some of the services and lists the ones safe to disable and the ones not so safe :)

full W7 tweak guide
http://www.tweakhound.com/tweaking-windows-7/

the services part
http://www.tweakhound.com/tweaking-windows-7/8/

Thank you! Yes, I did waste time.....I mean, way before I tried this free app!

Mousing over the infinite services, you get the impression---well, I did--- that a lot of them are gratuitous. But point really is, in a newer system, who cares? And that is the point you guys are making re this whole thing!!! I now get that!!!

I have always configured my systems down to the smallest element.

As it is now, my boot time is under 30 seconds when I boot into my WD Black mechanical drive, and everything runs fast and like silk. I am used to problem free. that is why I started learning immediately. My only problems, wondrously few, have owed to my doing something stupid.

Thanks again.

By the by, I did expect to have issues uninstalling the iobit freeware, but using Revo Uninstaller it went like the wind. Revo, after uninstalling, when U choose deep scan, finds all reg entries, and, in this case, two left over files....all gone after reboot. And then, I looked with my actual eyes in the registry, just to make sure. I always do that.

I am always testing new apps. I choose carefully, retain/buy VERY FEW. but build by build, apps morph!!!! Some positively, some not so much.

Edit: excellent list using the you can disable these services link!

I will look using his list, but I think I at least put a lot of the ones he lists on manual, and disabled others. Some were just logical to do that with. I am afraid to do that with home group services, cause once in a while I use my home group with either my backup desktop or my lappy. I know, infrequently enough so that when I do, I could just go in and enable it.

One more...using the general W7 tweaking link....I already knew most of them from long ago, most are very basic, after all....I used this:

http://www.spasche.net/files/parallel_connections

Got spartan window in Pale Moon saying only 'Your browser seems to use 8 simultaneous connections to this server."

I have no clue; this is the first I've heard of this in my LIFE. But using the same link, I read MS recommends under 10. Or else U can get bumped off?

WUT?????o_O

Wouldn't that also be impacted by bandwidth and the transfer speeds you are paying for? And if yr provider has cutting edge fiber optic hard wiring properly amped?

What do they mean "seems to"? They don't KNOW????

Unlike Time-Warner, whose hard wiring is in our other service stairwell, much older and pretty lame, re RCN's in our main service stairwell (where Service elevator is) ,not only are THEIR J-boxes on each landing huge and splendid, but they installed giant cast aluminum amps on every third landing! Just those amps are GORGEOUS.

Signal will never erode from the basement up to the PH floor.

I NEED TO TAKE A PIC OF one of THE AMPS!!!!! Cause everyone here will be JUST THRILLED simple beholding one!!:D (Or not:cool:.)

Feign excitement. No heatsink or related item on the planet in any residence..... is this thrilling.

Better late than nevah. I said I would put up pic of our amazing RCN amps, but hadda go out for a while. I was wrong. they are on every fifth landing, not every third.

I think they are just splendid. I now see they are General Instrument STARLINES. I will now do a search on that.

I made bad pic of one of the huge RCN J-Boxes on every landing with leads to every apartment whose occupants choose them.

RCN rocks. Astonishing 24/7 domestic support, great cable guys (and in htis.....and TOP OF THE LINE HARDWARE and installations, and, in this building, we are off the chain fussy about every tiny thing.
