Should i still run raid 0?

I am building my first computer and i have 2 20gig maxtor hd that i bought in an office depot deal. i just noticed that they arent the same dirves and i checked the serial # and one turned out to be the new ATA133 20gig hd and the other is a ATA100 20gig hd. My Soyo dragon plus doesnt support ATA 133 so i cannot get any benefit in speed from the ATA133 drive, but would i still be able to run raid 0? I have heard that you shouldnt run it with 2 drives unless they are identical?

its viable for you to still run your raid setup. you have no worries since it isnt possible for you to obtain that 133 thruput. i doubt even if you had a system that supported that and both drives were 133 you would get that kind of thruput anyways. the only reason that identical drives are recommend is because say you have a 20 gig 5400rpm and a 40 gig 7200 rpm then the raid setup will be spec'ed w/ the characteristics of the older drive. so a waste of space and speed is present.

Well i have sloved my problem. My mom had to take my sister to her tutor and it was right by office depot and so i went and talked with this guy there and he went in the back and brought out a ATA100 box and opened it up and there was an ATA133 drive in it, so he just gave it to me and slipped the ATA100 back into the box. I was one of the easiest things i have ever done, and would just like to say he rules. So now i have 2 identical ATA133 20gig maxtors. So anyone reading this and is in the market for an ATA133 hd check out office depot b/c with the deal in the hot deal section it cost me $30 a drive so check it out if you are looking for one. I think that there is a good chance it could happen to alot more people b/c it happend to me twice and i am probobly the most unlucky person on the face of the earth.

you can run a raid setup with any combo of drives. it will simply be limited by the capacity of the smallest drive and the speed of the slowest drive
