Time to renew my home owners insurance they want $880.00 to renew for a yr.

I have shopped around and found insurance much lower for the same coverage $639.00

not sure if it's worth it to change for the difference I live in florida and have been with SF for 6 yrs feel I am even lucky to have them renew me this year.

Why would you be lucky to be renewed, have you burned your house down lately?

I'm not sure what insurance companies are like in florida tho...probably not much more fun than getting home insurance in detroit.

If all things are equal, I would see no real reason not to switch unless you are extremely happy with with the service level you have received from State Farm and have developed a very good relationship with the agent that you don't wish to lose (those intangibles DO have some value).

That being said...

Make SURE ALL things are equal. I have had many friends and co-workers jump insurance companies for cheaper rates for the "same coverage" only to find out (the hard way) that the MONETARY maximum was the same, but many of the other included benefits (rental coverage during loss, storage fees for affected property, other fees covered, etc) were NOT included in "cheaper company B"' coverage

We used to have State Farm, until we switched last year to Liberty Mutual.

When we switched our home and car(2) insurance, we were saving $800-$900 per year (with better coverage).

I'm not sure why you'd feel lucky then...either they're going to insure in florida or pull out of the state altogether, which is their option to do too.

You do realize you can bring your competing quote to your SF agent and tell them "If you want to keep me, match this rate, if not, I'm walking."

But yes, I understand you. Folks - insurance companies in FL drop people left and right for home insurance for one reason or another regarding your property and it's likelihood to get demolished in a given year.
