Should I stay with SLI?

Ok, I purchased and MSI open box mobo and it worked great. Now when I added a second 8800gt to the system, sli was slower then having only 1 of the 8800gt's in.

Anyways, I have RMA'd the mobo and it was replaced and the new mobo has the same problem and this one won't OC at all, I think it's a refurbished board that someone burned up.

Anyways, I have all SLI certified equipment and I need to get another mobo.

I'm thinking if I stay with SLI, I will get the EVGA 750i FTW as I read it is a solid performer.

If I don't go with SLI, I don't what to get other then the fact that I will likely go with the p45 chipset.

I want the ability to upgrade my cpu to 45nm quad core sometime over the next year.

I use my system for gaming and some photo applications.

As I see it, if you want to keep both video cards then you'll have to get an SLI board. If you are considering replacing the video cards with a single, faster one, then the sky is the limit. You can go with an SLI board with the faster video card as a "just in case" or even use your existing video cards until you decide on a faster one.

That being said, my own choice (if I didn't already have a matched pair of cards) would likely be a single fast card and a P45 chipset board.

I made the same mistake as ZAP go with a non-sli (non nVidia) chipset. the intel based OC much better and with the 4870x2 coming out soon(hopefuly) there would be no need for SLI/CF imo.

Yeah, I'm thinking I should sell the at least 1 of the GT's and go with a new platform. I feel like Nvidia really isolated themselves with their shenanigans and game playing with Intel. I'm thinking I could get more for my money by going with A P45 board. There are just so many choices over there for the Intel boards. I'm also thinking that the 750i seems to get good reviews most places and is a descent OC'er by that I mean 4+Ghz doesn't seem to be a problem on a E8400 and definately not a big deal on and E8500 @ 179 - 20MIR, I wouldn't be loosing anything by going that route.

I just shouldn't have invested in the second 8800gt... Anyways, Pantlegz1 I figure with 2 video cards the 750i would be similar to your system, which I would be happy with.
