should i stay with runflats

I have an 04 bmw z4, and had one of the tires fail on me.

It is the driver's rear.

It has 18's, and run flats all around. Had the tires checked about a month ago and they still said I had plenty of tread. I think i hit something because the tire looks in good shape but damaged and torn from being driven damaged.

Looking at possibly just getting a new set of rims with new tires, rather than just replacing the rear two tires.

Run Flats are about $350 each.. I can get a new set of rims with non run flats for about $1800.

I'm thinking I need to stay with run flats, because 1. I don't have a spare, and 2. they worked, I was able to drive 3 plus miles on teh failed tire w/o issue.

Yeah, stick with it. Good sticky non-runflats would perform a bit better, but it won't make that much difference on that car. Nice car, but it's not an //M or anything, and you're probably not taking it to the track 🙂

Get this and then get some non runflats. That's probably what I'm going to do when my tires need replacing.
Runflat prices just seem too high considering they're still capable of having the sidewall damaged and being just as useless as a regular tire.

Put regular tires on the Corvette. Run flats cost to much and we have the CTS for long drives.

I could buy 2 sets of tires for the cost of 1 set of run flats.

X5 and I sold my runflats right away < 500mi. They were good Michelin Latitudes but made the ride entirely too stiff and way too costly to replace (which is usually a requirement), and much too difficult to find a replacement in a pinch (like while on vacation). I would be concerned with no spare though... and for that reason I'd keep them on if I were you. You could have AAA but you'd be stuck on someone else's timetable.

Would there be any benefit at all from doing that? Are those wheels lighter than stock? If not, I wouldn't do it.

Get non-RFs and buy an emergency kit.

I may go that route with my BMW but I got 5 years of wheel/tire insurance so I'm hoping I won't need to for a while.

I don't know if they are lighter, but they would look a helluva lot better. The one's I'm looking at are the bmw M6 style rims

what i have now

what i want

A tire that maintains its shape enough when flat to be driven on for a short period of time. My pops had them on his C6, and replaced them because regular tires offered MUCH better grip and performance.
