The main site hasn't had any useful information for a decade. If they did review something, it was usually after others had already done it.

Forums on the other hand, have plenty of useful info if you have a problem. And hardware is discussed by actual users. I've always preferred that to review sites.
 
I don't think I ever seriously looked at the main site. I'm not that interested in mainstream benches and reviews. I like ars for tech articles. Just overviews so I can see what's happening, and the occasional quirky hardware release.
 
I pretty much never used it, only ever been here for the forums, so the departure of the main site doesn't really change much for me in the immediate future.
 
I liked the main site! I'm missing it at the moment with the release of new CPUs by AMD and Intel. I'm not sure which other sites I trust, or at least I don't know them well enough to calibrate for their bias.
 
I just found out about the "End of Anandtech" today. Because the Forum and overall membership is top-heavy with rational, intelligent people, I took refuge here exclusively ever since I joined, blowing off Facebook and other options. I was building computers. I needed Anandtech and the hardware forums for information. I began posting more on the Social Forums and less on the hardware / software forums.

They say the Forums will continue. I hope so. I don't have a problem migrating to Tom's Hardware.

But this is just another senior-citizen anxiety, adding to my other ongoing anxieties. Two family members under this roof died in the last 32 months. I'm alone, now. We have a criminal running again for president. I've finally come to grips with the fact that my COPD is a disability, even for walking a daily mile, and as I did yesterday -- chopping up piles of Juniper tree branches and twigs, bagging them and hauling them to the street for trash-pickup. [Will I be able to do that NEXT year?!] My local friends are all dying off, one at a time.

So the loss of Anandtech -- to whatever extent that may be -- is another misfortune thrown in my path. As such, it seems to be a bigger misfortune than it might have been 10 years ago. [I'd like to turn back the clock by 10 years, for sure.]

Interesting. How did you get to the forums if the main site was mostly meaningless to you? I only joined because I had read Anand's articles before and also because I was banished from Tech Report forums. They couldn't handle my outbursts and occasional crappy jokes 😀

I think visually I prefer AT's charts and graphs and article layout. Some of the other sites, while maybe being better in terms of benchmarks selection, have horrible page layout.

HFBoards had a writing section that ended in a similar manner but the forums still live. But hockey is more popular and there are premium memberships over there.
