Should I stay or should I go?

I currently have my phone plan with Verizon. I started out on my family's plan in school before switching to my own personal plan when I graduated. I've had a Razr, Blackberry Tour, & Motorola Droid (in that order). I'm currently forking over $95/mo for my phone bill.

My contract is up in 6 days and I've had every intention of switching over to Sprint. I get a 12% discount through work and the costs of the plans are cheaper than those of big red. I can also get a $125 credit by switching from Verizon to Sprint through a promotion going on now.

I would like to transition over to a Windows Phone but am kinda clueless on what Sprint has to offer and how it compares to the Android heavy hitters. Can anyone shed some light on the subject?

The Arrive, TouchPro 2 and Moto ES400S are all Sprint has to offer at the moment.

I'd hold out for an EVO 3D or get a Nexus S Maybe get a Nexus S for now, then hopefully the EVO 3D will be out and swap for it...

All Sprint has on WP7 is the HTC Arrive. It's pretty cool though. It has one of the best physical keyboards on a smartphone, and the battery life is supposedly very good. The keyboard is very similar to the Touch Pro 2's.

All WP7 phones have basically the same specs - 800x480 screen, 1GHz Snapdragon, ~512 MB of memory. Spec-wise they're nowhere near the latest Android phones. In terms of responsiveness, UI smoothness, and overall experience, though, I'd say WP7 is better than even the dual-core Tegra 2 Android phones I've tried. Even 3D games and Youtube run quite smoothly.

The next round of WP7 devices will probably arrive (no pun intended) in the fall, after the big Mango update. They will likely be using the 2nd-gen Snapdragon like the one in the Thunderbolt.

Anyway the only WP7 device is the HTC arrive. The guy above mentioned the touch pro 2, which is WM6, DO NOT get that phone. Old and terrible. But I'm sure you knew that.

For android, I'd get the Evo 3d or wait for the galaxy s 2 in september. Or the nexus s right now, although it is having some reception issues right now.

Id try out Sprint before I make an all out move. Sprint's 3G service is horrible in a lot of areas and their 4G is very spotty as when you move out of range, your entire connection drops and it takes 10-15 seconds just to search for 3G. It makes it highly annoying to stream music when driving. 3G in my area is about 0.3-0.5 Mb/s compared to all other carriers at 1-3 Mb/s. Only time I hit 1 Mb/s is at night when no one is awake.

Im highly considering eating the ETF and making a switch once I get some money.

I get 25% on hardware and 20% off services @ Verizon, makes it a little less painful to use them...

I double checked, it's 13%. Kinda seems like a random number to mem but that's what it is.

My contract is up as of June 6th with Verizon and I'm perfectly happy with my Droid right now, it's just the contract price which is killing me. Any chance the price will drop when my contract ends since I haven't purchased a subsidized phone?

If you do switch to sprint, they offer a 30 day try out period. You can cancel and return the phone after 30 days without any cost to you.

I like the sprint service, I get 700-1000 kbps on my touch pro 2. I am planning on leaving though to prepaid since they are charging the $10 fee on smartphones. I get a 27% discount on my monthly plan. If I go to prepaid I would end up paying the same amount (or less if you include the $10 fee).

Few things that annoy me, the $10 fee. Also their plan structure is dumb. On t-mobile I can get a family plan and add data/text to each line individually, thus making it cheaper. I have 2 lines and I want data/text on only one of them. On t-mobile you can do this. On sprint you can't. Both lines need to have the same options data/text/etc. Or you have to set them up as separate lines/ non-family plan.

Sprint has good coverage where I live but slow data speeds. Verizon is 2-4x faster in the same spot with the same phone. (Roam Control rocks!) both in the city I live in and the city I work. Yeah, VZW will cost a bit more but I get more for my money. Sprints $10 fee narrowed down the gap to $10 for the family plan and made it an easy decision. Thanks Sprint.

I just switched to t-mobile and loving it. And they have the only 4.3" windows 7 phone
