That certainly is not normal. I believe you got i fromB&H? They are very good about returns.

Except for the 3rd one down - the sneaker heels are out of focus.

I was trying to focus on the word Aldo in side the shoes... turns out it didnt look as good...

I thought it was a cool shot. At first glance, I was like, what the hell, the whole thing is out of focus, but then I noticed the clear text inside the show. Neat idea.

Nice shots!

Yeah, that ain't normal. Try cleaning the metal contacts on both the lens and the body. If it still doesn't work, send it back.

I have no issues with the 3rd photo. Playing with DOF to direct the viewer to something specific is a fun thing to do. Sure, the shoes were, well, shoes, but seemed like you did what you wanted to with that shot.

Anyway, sounds like something is a bit funky on either your camera or lens. Never had that problem with other lenses?

Never had the problem but it seems to be fine now, turns out that i wasn't pushing it all the way in to AF
I heard that the lens had a hard switch... i wonder why canon didn't just put the switch on the camera digitally
