Should I sell my Radeon 9700 for an FX when available?

This Radeon blows driver wise. If you haven't seen the post with my fiasco and UT2k3, you know what I mean. This card gives me very high frames in games that run the Quake III engine but that is it. UT2k3 gets me about 50 frames average with everything on normal w/ software sound on. So I'm pretty tired of this card and I'll probably sell it or something to get an nVidia board because this card has me pulling out my hair and ATI needs to get some new software people ASAP.

nah... hold onto it... wait to see what nVidia releases, when it is actually widely available... and how much it costs.

sell it to me for 5 dollars, you could call it charity to a less fortunate person or tithing or whatever. but dude the nvidia is gonna woop on it have you seen the whole thing on toms hardware i got this feeling it is gonna give ati some pretty good competition, sell it now cause once that thing comes out the prices will prob plummit and youll be stuck with something you dont want and even if you do sell it and the nvidia sucks you could but another

duh

Idnut,

If I read your rig specs right, "The Beast" is a MSI 648 with the SiS648 chipset. This has been a known compatibility problem for months.

Make sure you have loaded the latest SiS AGP 2.13 drivers

Edit: I meant the SiS AGP 1.13 drivers

idnut, Someone is surely going to correct me if I'm wrong but in reading
your system specs for The Beast, you're running a P4 2.4G/533 and
you're using PC2100 memory. It's my understanding that the 533 FSB
requires PC2700 memory while the 400FSB uses PC2100.
Could this be part of the problem?

400FSB use PC1600 DDR.
533FSB use PC2100 DDR.
664FSB use PC2700DDR.
800FSB use PC3200DDR.

No reason to sell. ATI will have another released product out of the pipe by then anyway. It should be an interesting market at that point.

My Ti 4400 gets really crap framerates 10x7x16 w/less than average detals (35 or so average on Tokara Forest) Might just be your system isn't very good in terms of performance, even if the specs are good. It's not always the hardware, but the way everything performs together, a new graphics card may not make your system perform as much better as you hope.

hmm thats pretty funny you guys, my radeon 9000 pro 128MB, the memory is 500mhz, the core is 320mhz, i run ut2k3 at highest details with 20 bots on my Athlon XP 2000+ system and i dont go below 40 fps ever, if rarely get that low and i also run 16X Anisotropic filtering with these type of frames, it seems if you fix the r9000 pro's fill rate problem(overclock the core significantly like i did) it performs as good, if not better then the 8500 and ti4200 cards, i get a 3dmark 2001 se score of 10,451, i also use catalyst 3.0 and direct x 9. My card was a powercolor jsyut so you know.

ATI's price drops when FX sees the light of day will make the hassle of trying to sell it not justifiable.

Keep that card!!! ... or give it to a friend...

My UT2k3 ... and even the original Unreal1 runs beautifully on my system.

I even just finished the German demo of Aquanox. What a cool game.
Too bad I dont know German. lol

I run Commache 4, Descent 3, Unreal1, Quake3a, Ut2003,

Demo's ... Aquanox, Bloodrayne, NOLF2 ... and others

all run sweet!!!

Is there really a chance that I just have a bad configuration? Also, could anyone get me a link for the newest of SiS AGP drivers for the 648 Max? I personally can't believe I have a Radeon 9700 Pro and I'm actually ashamed of it because of this conflict. I look at my case and I see the badge on the case I put on and I think "Pssh, who cares if it doesn't perform for me?". Anyone got a link to the site which talks about this conflict so I don't feel like I'm the only one with these frustrations?

Okay, here's the story. I updated my BIOS to the latest (v.1.3), installed the latest SiS AGP driver (r1.13), and already have the new Catalyst 3.0 drivers. UT2k3 runs w/ everything on normal w/ 10x7 @ 32bp and software sound w/ a frame rate of about 60 average. With hardware sound it drops about 20 frames. The game doesn't look as smooth as I have seen it on a geForce4 4600Ti w/ the same settings. So now what? Fastwrite is off and AGP is set at 8X. (I can't seem to move it down to 4X, the computer just refuses) Any other recommendations?

The new SiS AGP drivers gave me an SiS AGP Utility. The only option I have to change is Transfer Rate: 4X or 8X. It's default is 8X but when I switch it to 4X it won't boot Windows right. The other information it says is:

AGP Bus Capability

Major/Minor Verison: 3.00
FastWrite Supported: Yes
SBA Supported: Yes
Supported Rate: 4X 8X

Video Card Capability

(Lists same things as above)

Current Status

AGP Mode: 3.0
FastWrite: Enable
SBA: Enable
Current Rate: 8X

Then there is that Transfer Rate Select frame I mentioned before. The bullet is selected on 8X and I can change it to 4X but it locks the computer up when I try to run Windows.

EDIT: It doesn't lock up Windows anymore and I now have it set to 4X but UT2k3 doesn't run any better. :( WTF?! I have tried everything! I changed the settings via Properties>Settings>Advanced>SmartGart(TM) also and no difference. I'm going nuts over this!

have you tried disable sound and see how fast it runs?
If by changing the sound option you get different framerate, that means it's not the R9700 at fault, but your sound card. Creative SoundBlaster Live is the real suspect I think.

I just thought this fvckin card was going to perform for the money I shelled out for it. I have no one to tell me if the card is running right or anything. For all I know it is running right and I'm just expecting too much out of it. I don't want to sell this card but I'm going to have to if ATI won't help me with anything.
