i have a 1990 BMW 525i... i dont know whether to sell it (maybe around $1500-2000) or donate it and get a tax break... its not in the best shape, but still runs...

also, if i was going to sell, where should i put it up?? ebay motors is the only place that comes to mind, but i feel as if i dont have enough feedback to be reliable (only 10)...

so what do u guys think i should do?

just put your phone # on the auction and allow people to call you with questions and such. people usually feel a lot better about making a deal like that if they can talk to the seller first.

Hmmm my brother really needs a car.. if you donate to some poor grad student, could you still write it off for a tax break?

i donated my Maxima last year before the tax-law change regarding donating automobiles.

Last year you could deduct any good-faith estimate of the donated car's value. If it was under $5K you didn't need any type of appraisal either.

This year, however, you have to wait until the car is sold/auctioned and then only at that time are you able to deduct the the actual sale price which I suspect will be quite a bit lower than KBB retail.

I donated my Mercury Sable awhile back after I bought my new car. I say if you can afford it, go for it. There is always someone in need:)
