Should I scrape off that little thermal pad on the bottom of my Thunderbird cooler and use thermal paste instead?

Yes, the general rule, when overclocking, is no TIM (Thermal Interface Material). Use thermal paste instead. TIM's require tremendous pressure, as well as lots of initial heat to burn them in, so they work properly. Paste is better.

I think the key is, Good paste is better than the PCTC. Bad paste(ie RadioShack), WILL dry out since there is about 45-50W of heat concentrated one tiny little spot.
